A simple sweetened snack made with beaten rice, jaggery, coconut and ripe plantain.
Ingredients
3 cups - Beaten rice / poha/ Aval
1/2 cup - Freshly grated coconut
3/4 cup - Jaggery syrup
2 pods - Cardamom, powdered
1 - Ripe plantain, chopped to small pieces
Method
1 ) Wet the beaten rice with little water. If you have freshly opened sweet coconut water, use that to wet the beaten rice.
2 ) Mix all the ingredients listed with beaten rice.
Serve as a snack and enjoy this jaggery sweetened Aval.

prav, u r cooking some authentic recipes here. avalakki with upma is served for breakfast in most of the function back in my native.
I remember eating this in Belgaum at a friends house.My mom doesn't make this.Looks so good Pravs.

prav, there r many recipes for making avalakki. this sweet recipe is almost same except for one thing. we serve banana separately. but did u know, banana and jaggary with honey+sugar+cardamom powder is added for ganapati homa(havan).
there is also a spicier version of avalakki using onion and crushed red chilli powder.

Hi Sia : Even for this recipe you can serve the banana in the side. But then i choppped & mixed, so that you can just use a spoon and eat it. But if you smash up the banana with aval..it will be awesome.
At home for pooja... i remember a combination of what you mentioned was prepared as prasadham. But instead of jaggery, sugar and the crystal type sugar was used..also ghee...whoa ! my mouth is watering :D
In school i remember a classmate used to bring the spicy version of avalakki...but it was very dry.

if u add fresh grated coconut to spicy avalakki it becomes very soft to chew...or else its a good exercise to ur jaw;)

Hi Sia : you are right. I always wet avalakki with water to make it soft. For this recipe first time i didn't do that and my jaws had good excerise :D
