Ingredients
2 cups - Rice flour
1 cup - Besan flour / Gram flour
1 tbsp - Ajwain / Carom seeds
1 tbsp - White sesame seeds
1 tsp - Red chili powder
1/4 tsp - Hing powder / Asafoedita
1/4 cup - Melted butter or Margarine
About 2 cups - Lukewarm water
Salt to taste
Oil to fry ( Peanut oil )
Method
1 ) Sieve rice and besan flour together to a mixing bowl. Add ajwain, sesame seeds, red chili, hing, salt and mix together. Pour the melted butter and mix.
2 )Add water little at a time and make a chapati like dough. Dough should not be too stiff nor too loose.
3 ) Shown in picture below, is the murukku presser. Take little of the dough and fill into the murukku mold.
4 ) With the murukku presser, press and shape the murukku to a plate with paper napkin.
6 ) Heat oil in a wok or kadai. Carefully slide shaped murukku dough into the hot oil. Fry both sides on a medium high heat, till crisp and golden.
Take off the oil and drain on a paper towel.
Serve as a evening snack with tea or coffee.

Update
You can also make with this proportion, that is 2 cups of rice flour and 1/2 cup Besan. Since besan fries faster than rice flour, with this proportion you will get even cooking.

Chakali, thats something mom packs for me when i am coming back from home, i never have tried making it as i dont hve the mould.... after seeing your delicious ones, i think its time for me to buy that mould for me...:)

Chakli looks nice.. I have always made murukku with rice flour and urad flour combination.. adding besan is new to me and thanks for the step by step pics.

chakkuli looks perfect prav...i can almost grab from my screen and pop some in my mouth... i too have the chakkuli maker. its very handy to make rice semiya also.

Hi Rg : yes it is white sesame seeds. Also try frying in peanut oil if you can....some oils can give a bitter taste.

Tried it out on friday, it came out very well. We all loved it including our guests. The color of my murrukku was little darker in appearance than yours....but that didn't matter as the taste was really good. It was completely finished off on the same day. Didn't have anything left to store in the container. Will be making it again this week. Thanks Pravs for the recipe and also for replying to my previous question...

Hi Praveena, I made these yummy chaklis this evening..all liked it, including my both kids! My son -21 months- gobbled 4 of them!
